I would like some recommendations for new records. What have you heard that is interesting? I have recently bought and enjoyed the following:
The Raveonettes "Lust, Lust, Lust" Lackthereof "My Haunted The Dodos "Visiter"
I have tried out a lot of others like Fleet Foxes, Black Kids, Frightened Rabbit, etc. Nothing too great from what I can hear. Any ideas? What turns you on right now?

Try Shearwater. They've got a great new one out called Rook.
Otherwise, Sigur Ros's new one releases next week and it's beautiful.

New Order - albums Power, Corruption and Lies and Technique. both have some terrible songs but really good ones too. Most of their albums are very mixed - avoid the Best Of, Republic.
anything by Minus Story. Make the Dead Come and My Ion Truss are both great. The Captain Is Dead is a classic.
Also, there is some All Things Bright and Beautiful songs that were released on MySpace. Sweet!

This year's been a little slower than last; so much great stuff came out last year! The Evangelicals' record Evening Descends and the Mae Shi's record HLLLYH! are both worth checking out.
The past few months I've kept coming back to Animal Collective's Strawberry Jam record. Lee, I remember reading that you were struggling with portraying joy; I think they've found a very direct way of doing this through their music and vocal delivery without it feeling hamfisted.
I found The Forms' first album Icarus late (it came out a few years ago now), but it still feels new compared to everything else out there. Both Icarus and their s/t records are worth a listen.

Good recommendations. Some of these I've been listening to for a while such as Animal Collective and Sigur Ros (not the new one yet). Minus Story is interesting but I don't typically like the female voices. I might be a misogynist. Shearwater vocals don't appeal all that much to me either. I am very particular about vocals. I'll try some of the others and see what they are all about. Many thanks.

Try "Peregrine" or "Low Level Owl Volumes 1 and 2" by The Appleseed Cast...phenomenal. And I second the new Sigur Ros album recommendation. And "In Rainbows" by Radiohead of course anything else that has come out this year minus They Sand AS They Slew you can ignore.

Minus Story does not have female vocals, just male. He has a somewhat high voice, but I definitely wouldn't think it sounds like a girl. And yes - I agree Aaron that In Rainbows (and "Disk 2") from Radiohead are incredible.

I'd be interested in what you think of The National and/or Midlake, Lee.
Other stuff I've been into lately... - Sun Kil Moon/Red House Painters. SKM's newest, "April" is pure lovely melancholy. - I've been on a big Travis kick too, but I'm not sure they'd be of interest to DELB, despite the nearly perfect vocals.
Also... - Need to order the new My Morning Jacket like everyone else in the country. - Just listened to Fleet Foxes for the first time today, and am hard pressed to see what all the fuss is about.

Only album that exceeded my expectations this year is Mates of State- Re-Arrange Us. I was already a big fan of the band, but this really blew me away, I think it is phenomenal. A fun album for the summer. Would be a great introduction to the band if you have never heard them.

I have the last National record but it didn't really tickle me. My brother liked it quite a lot. I'd put Midlake in the same category. Overall, there are a lot of "good" redords out there but not very many great ones. Most singers are decent but not inspiring. I just got the last Spoon record and I really like the sound of it but the songs are rather middle-of-the-road in my opionion. My Morning Jacket is just dreadful. Dreadful. I have liked some of the Mates of State tunes I've heard and I'll have to dig a little deeper. On the way to work this morning I listened to Low's "Trust". Now that's a record. "I am the Lamb and I am a dead man." Just wonderful.

I know this suggest will lead nowhere, but Weezer's Red Album is great.
But you should check out your fellow Northern Record's band, Monarch, their new one, Lowly, is pretty good. The Grandeur that was Rome, their first one, was pretty amazing as well.

I just happened across this forum because I was looking for new ATBB music (the new old songs and new new songs on myspace are quite good). So since I do not frequent this forum, this may be a one time post. I don't know if your music taste is similar to how ATBB sounds or not but I'm going to suggest something that sounds completely different. The band is called The Avett Brothers. They have this weird blend of bluegrass, punk, country, folk, rock, etc. They really have a hard time fitting into a particular genre. The friend of mine that introduced me to them always describes them as "bluegrass with a punk attitude" which fits reasonably well. Their myspace page, www.myspace.com/theavettbrothers, has some decent songs. I think their homepage, theavettbrothers.com/, has some mp3s on it too but I can't find them (google might help). Places like playlist.com/ and www.pandora.com/ have songs too. If you feel like buying / acquiring albums of theirs, a safe way to do it is to look at their discography on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Avett_Brothers at start with their most recent album and work backwards. The most recent one, Emotionalism, is probably the most immediately accessible and is actually a pretty good record too. They don't really have a bad record but Emotionalism and the full length before it, Four Thieves Gone: The Robinsville Sessions, are good places to start. I really hope you enjoy them. I've been listening to them for a couple months and they've quickly become one of my favorite bands. See them live if you get a chance.
