I don't even remember the last time an album amazed me...oh yes I do, it was called Love and Affection. And before that it was called, Songs of Faith and Devotion, and before that it was Neon Ballroom.

I am with you Lee I can't just download albums, I need physical records. I am stoked that new vinyls are going with codes to download mp3 versions of the songs. I got the Bon Iver, "For Emmma" album and I am loving it.
Also Nov. 23 "Chinese Democracy" you all know you should go out and get it.

Not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread (didn't feel like re-reading it), but I have been in love with the music of Josh Ritter. Check out his latest "Historical Conquests". You might even be able to stream the whole thing from his website. By far the most gifted songwriter in a long long time.

Have to agree there. Ritter is one my whole family can agree on. "The Animal Years" is in my all-time top ten.

I have used my eMusic account and a little cash to gather up a few oddities such as:
The Microphones "Mount Eerie" Mount Eerie "Mount Eerie Pts. 6 & 7" "Black Wooden Ceiling Opening" and "Lost Wisdom" Lackthereof "My Haunted" and "Your Anchor" The Notwist "The Devil You + Me" The Republic Tigers The Cure "Faith" Beck "Modern Guilt"
I like "Lost Wisdom" quite a bit and "Faith" is always listenable. I listened to some of Josh Ritter but it hasn't really taken me in yet. I remember listening to Andrew Bird the first time and feeling the same way until I heard "Armchair Apocrypha" and was completely taken in. Ritter may be the same way. I just haven't found my way yet.

I forgot about the following as well:
Deerhunter "Microcastle" - Nothing to get excited about. Antony & The Johnsons "Another World" - I look forward to his new full length. I really enjoyed "I Am A Bird Now" with the rest of the world.
But the best record I have heard in a while is Natalie Portman's Shaved Head "Glistening Pleasure." My wife purchased this record and it is entirely listenable. It's titilating in all the right ways and makes you feel a little guilty and really good songwriting and energy. Recommended.

Maybe old news, but haven't seen any mention of Arcade Fire. Funeral and Neon bible are both stellar.
Animal Collective's new one is just awesome.
Grizzly bear's new one is too.
If you like Shoegaze, try to find anything by Air formation, especially the 57 octaves below EP.
Sunset rubdown's Dragonslayer is pretty interesting.

Any record by Califone is a treat.
Spoon is also worth a listen, if you aren't already familiar.
Dr. Dog is probably one of the best bands making music right now.
